Testing facilities

Within the framework of many former and ongoing projects, testing facilities have been developed at the Institute for Energy Systems, that are available to students and scientific staff for research purposes:

BabiTER Atmospheric entrained flow gasification, investigation of reaction kinetics.
Cooling Line Investigation of the condensation behavior during hot gas purification.
Entrained Flow Reactor The entrained flow reactor is used for fundamental combustion investigations of solid fuels under exactly defined conditions. This is reached through electric heating elements, which can heat the combustion tube to up to 1600 °C.
Fuel Cell Test Rig Investigation on the degradation of SOFCs.
Hector Hector is a pilot-scale reactor for the pre-treatment by hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of low grade biomass that improves the fuel quality. Larger amounts of HTC treated biomass are produced for in-house pilot-scale combustion and gasification test rigs.
High Pressure TGA The high pressure TGA serves the investigation of the alkali behavior and reaction kinetics of solid fuels.
ORC Test Tig Organic Rankine Cycle, or ORC, is a term used to describe steam power processes which use organic fuels as a working medium.
Oxycoal Combustion Chamber For the investigation of oxy-fuel processes, an air-cooled combustion chamber with 210 kW thermal output is available. Natural gas or coal dust can be used as fuel.
PiTER Pressurized entrained flow reactor for the investigation of gasification kinetics and the release of trace elements under near-industrial conditions.
Rotor Test Rigs No-whirl and dynamic test rig for the determination of leakage behavior and rotordynamic coefficients of sealing systems for turbomachines at varying operating conditions.
SNG Test Rig The SNG pilot plant is used to investigate the production of synthetic natural gas (SNG) from biomass.
Wire Mesh Reactor The wire mesh reactor allows for small-scale pyrolysis and gasification of solids under circumstances comparable to those in industrial facilities.
